What a Wi‑Fi QR code does
A Wi‑Fi QR code holds your network name and password. When a guest scans it with their phone camera, the phone offers to join the network. They tap once and they are online. No spelling out a long password, no mistakes with capital letters.
It is handy for homes with visitors, cafés, hotels, holiday rentals, offices, clinics and event venues.
How to make one
- Choose Wi‑Fi at the top.
- Type the network name exactly as it appears on your phone, including spaces and capital letters.
- Pick the security type (usually WPA / WPA2 / WPA3).
- Type the password. It is shown as plain text so you can check it before printing.
- Tick Hidden network only if your network does not appear in the list of networks.
- Check for the green Scans well note, then download.
Make sure it works
Before you print, scan the code on your screen with your own phone while you are near the router. If your phone joins, guests will too. If it does not:
- Check the network name. “Cafe Rosa” and “Cafe_Rosa” are different networks.
- Check the password, letter by letter.
- If your router has two networks (for example 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with different names), make a code for the one guests should use.
Special characters such as semicolons, commas and quotes in a name or password are handled for you.
Where to put it
- A small card by the door or on the table.
- A frame on the wall of a café or waiting room.
- Inside a welcome folder in a holiday rental.
For a guest network, consider a separate network with its own password. Then you can change it, and print a new code, without changing the password your own devices use.
A photo code for your Wi‑Fi
A Wi‑Fi card is a nice place for a photo code. Use your shop logo, a picture of your café, or your holiday home. Keep the photo strength at the default if guests will scan it from across a room, and print it at least 4 cm wide.
Questions people ask
Is it safe to type my Wi‑Fi password here?
Yes. The code is made in your own browser. Your network name and password are not uploaded, stored or logged by us. Remember, though, that anyone who can see the printed code can join your network.
Which phones can scan a Wi‑Fi QR code?
iPhones on iOS 11 or newer and most Android phones from 2019 onwards can join straight from the camera app. On older Android phones, Google Lens or a QR app does the same.
What if I change my Wi‑Fi password?
The old code stops working, because the password is stored inside it. Make a new code with the new password and replace the printed one.
Which security type should I pick?
Almost every home and office router uses WPA, WPA2 or WPA3, so leave it on the first option. Pick WEP only for very old routers, and No password for open networks.
My network is hidden. Will it still work?
Yes. Tick Hidden network so phones know to look for it even though it does not show up in the list.
